4th of July is one of the best opportunities to celebrate summertime with friends.
We love keeping it simple with good food, good views, and obviously good people. Our favorite thing to do is watch fireworks from our rooftop in LA. There are so many firework shows around the city, that it’s the perfect spot to see them all at once.
My biggest tip when it comes to the 4th of July is to just keep it casual. Of all the holidays to have no frills, this is it. Our best memories over the years are the years we kept it the simplest. We love to set up blankets and pillows around the yard and picnic with friends. So many spots across the city tend to get so overcrowded, that it doesn’t seem to make any sense to leave the house. Cuddle up, comfy clothes, what more could you need?
We actually just purchased some new Pendleton blankets {our favorite}. They are perfect for barbecues, movie nights and of course for staking out to watch fireworks. They’re not only quite cute but also incredibly practical and so well made.
As you can see, I really like using a hat as a little drink holder. I was always on the hunt for a basket, but one day did this and never looked back. Of course we have a bigger cooler to keep beers and such chilled, but this is perfect to have on a picnic blanket or for my own little stash {ha!}.
During the day, it is crucial to stay cool. We just purchased misting fans to keep June cool, but honestly we all used them. Come evening, I always forget how chilly it gets {at least here in LA}, so don’t forget to bring a sweatshirt if you’re going over to friends’ {and maybe even sweatpants if you want to change into a full sweatsuit… been there}!
When it comes to drinks, beer is always a safe bet, but I think it’s even more fun to make your own cocktails. The perfect activity before fireworks begin is a cocktail making competition as I broke down in this post. I always love a little friendly competition and it’s a fun way to get people to know one another if you have a few friend groups in attendance. Major pro tip — take a peak at some of my favorite summer cocktails. Who said you weren’t allowed to get a little head start!
Honestly other than that, there’s not much else to say. Stay in, stay warm, stay cozy, stay hydrated {if you know what I mean}… I love this holiday because of it’s laid back feel, so don’t be afraid to embrace that!
What are your go-to 4th of July Plans? We’re all ears!
