Travel 5 years ago Planning A Trip To Big Sur
After we canceled our trip to Paris for fashion week, Grant and I got to thinking about taking a trip for our 8 year wedding anniversary {it was Sept 24th}.
One of the places that’s been on both of our bucket lists since we got married is the Post Ranch Inn at Big Sur and I am beyond excited that we are currently there! As I created this blog post in excitement last week, I wanted to share a few things I came across as I did research about places to see on the coast up to Big Sur. I also wanted to share some of the clothing that I’ll be packing along for my trip.
Be sure to stay tuned this week for a recap from my trip. I cannot wait to share photos and a full review!
Where To Stay
While we are staying at the very pricey Post Ranch Inn {where rooms start at $1,500 per night}, Big Sur doesn’t have to break your bank. In fact, the area is known for camping. While “glamping” is more my speed, we definitely considered staying at the Ventana Glampsites that come complete with a bed, heated blankets and campfire goodies. It’s still pretty pricey but a really fun option if “glamping” is more your speed. Ventana also has some pretty sick lodging options that is still in the luxury league.
Another place that I’ve been eyeing for a while is Treebones Resort. They have really cool looking yurts to stay in but seem to book up really quick. Fernwood Campsites is also rumored to be a pretty great place to pitch your tent.
Most of the more luxurious resorts in Big Sur are 18 and over and don’t allow dogs. Ventana does allow pups, but Post Ranch does not.
What To Do
If you ever find yourself driving the windy roads to and from Big Sur then a stop at the infamous Bixby Bridge is an absolute must. It’s been many, many year’s since I visited this very spot and I cannot wait to take more time exploring during this trip.
I also plan to make a pit stop at Julia Pfeiffer Burns State Park where you can catch a perfect view just off the Highway of a waterfall crashing into the ocean. It’s one of my favorite places in the world.
A few more places I want us to check out that I’ve never been to are: Nepenthe, Partington Cove Trail & The Henry Miller Memorial Library.
YES, SIR!
What To Pack
Now, the fun stuff. Kidding. Sort of. I’m not gonna lie, I kind of geeked out to packing for this trip because we don’t really get much of a “fall” in Los Angeles. Any time we head even just an hour north the temperatures start to drop and even if it’s just a few degrees cooler, we use it as the perfect opportunity to bust out our Barbour’s and boots.
Any time we go glamping or head to Grant’s mom’s ranch, I always pack a Pendleton blanket. You never know when you’ll want to pull the car over and post up for a bit. I also had these sneakers a few years ago when we took a trip to the Sequoias and I wore them into the ground so I ordered another pair for this trip.

I find a trip to Big Sur a fantastic excuse to bust out flannel! I recently purchased this cute little plaid number for our trip too.
