I don’t travel by car often, but when I do, I come prepared.
The truth is, living in LA where driving is the main form of transportation and dealing with the infamous traffic, I tend to spend a lot of time in my car on the daily. And when I travel for work {or for pleasure} it typically requires a plane flight. But, there’s something that I really enjoy about a good old fashion road trip {once in a while}! So when Grant and I needed to get from Aspen to Amangiri last week, we decided to opt to travel by car. We were prepared for an 8+ hour drive, so I made sure we had some things to do, see and listen to, to pass the time. Today I’m sharing my tips below for making road trips more fun!
Of course, the ultimate tip is to travel with someone whose company you enjoy!
I'm pretty much always listening to music and road trips are definitely no exception. I almost always make a new playlist for each trip {or season} and overtime when I hear a song from them, it always reminds me of that time or place. You can follow along and listen to my playlists which can be found on my Spotify!
There's something about playing car games that feels very nostalgic! They're also a great way to engage with each other instead of silently scrolling your Instagram feed. The alphabet game and 21 questions are classics - as is the license plate game. Grant and I like to play, 'who can spot the most 'out of state' license plates.'
When going on road trips, I always like to pull over and stop for photos when I see something cool or beautiful. You can see so much more when traveling by car {rather than plane}, so I like to take advantage of that and capture those memories!
What makes a road trip more interesting and fun than an unexpected stop? Whether it's a landmark, town, restaurant, pull over or make a small detour for something that sparks your interest! Grant and I decided to go off road to visit one of the world's oldest living organisms - a tree that's over a million years old. Let's just say it was a pretty eerie experience - but it definitely was memorable!
Listening to podcasts is the perfect way to pass the time on a long road trip! There are so many cool and interesting ones out there and I always learn something new when I listen to them. On our way to Utah, I listened to Oprah's Master Class featuring Jay-Z. I also have been loving How I Built This With Guy Raz. So far Drybar and Dyson are my favorite episodes. What are some podcasts you like to listen to in the car?
