The days are ticking by faster than you can say “Summer.”
How is it that every year summer is here and then it’s gone in what feels like an instant? This year, I am determined to make it last. I want to slow down and enjoy those simple, special moments that are always the ones that go in the memory book.
Here are my top tips for slowing down, being mindful of time, and making this the best summer yet.
This may sounds simple, but how many times do you make the conscious decision to stop what you’re doing, leave the house, leave your phone off {!!!}, and go for a walk. The days are long so you have ample opportunity after your work day to get out and enjoy the fresh air of summer. It’s lovely to go solo and really take in your surroundings, but I also love meeting a friend and going on a stroll. It’s a great time to catch up and enjoy those fleeting, long summer days.
This has got to be one of my favorites. As you know, very few things make me happier than tending to my rose garden. My next project – a vegetable garden. There’s something so satisfying about eating the fruits of your labor. You can invite your friends over and have a little “farm to table night.” I found this little guide to what grows best during which season, so it’s looking like for the month of July we should be focusing on “vegetables that are heat resistant including pumpkins, okra, peas, beans, sweet potatoes, and cherry tomatoes.” I don’t know about you but I’m so here for it.
We have been meaning to set this up for so long. Our favorite summer activity {probably ultimate LA activity as well} is Cinespia outdoor movie nights at the Hollywood Forever Cemetery. Nothing sounds more fun than bringing the movie night to our backyard. We have big plans to set up a projector, tons of picnic blankets and invite over our pals for a fun summer night.
I love going to the farmer’s market but I always forget how much I do. The prices are so affordable, the produce is incomparable to store-bought, and it’s such a fun summer outing with family and friends. I love finding one that has prepared food too, and making sure I save time to grab a bite and picnic afterwards. Don’t forget to bring your reusable tote for an eco-friendly {and fashionable} accessory.
Not every trip you take has to be planned over months and months. Sometimes the best trips are the simplest and most spontaneous. Take a car and go for a drive to somewhere you haven’t been before. It doesn’t have to be very far. Explore a new town or get lost on the highway. It is so easy to forget how beautiful our surroundings can be until we go just a short distance and explore them!
