I’m still shocked by the fact that I went to Morocco a week or so ago.
First of all, I have to give a HUGE shout out to the amazing team at 24 Sévres for spoiling us rotten with this amazing trip. As someone who had never been to Marakesh, I was incredibly thankful that on our first day the hotel hooked us up with an amazing tour guide named Jarna. I’ve never gotten a tour guide before and boy was I missing out. Jarna knows everything and he sped us through the old medina {market} including a plethora of interesting facts and information. His e-mail is: ira.jarna@gmail.com and if you’re ever in Marakesh I cannot suggest him enough.
We met up with Jarna at the hotel around 11:30am and drove to Bahia Palace where we were introduced to jaw dropping tile unlike anything I’ve ever seen. The palace was picturesque yet oddly none of the photos I took could do it justice. After Bahia we walked to a new un-named palace that had opened 20 days prior to see newer versions of tile work that were even more mind blowing. I’m positive if you ask someone local that they will be able to tell you where this new palace was {it also offered local artists exhibits}.
Even the smaller rooms in the palace had something beautiful to offer. I felt like everywhere we turned we found something magical.
Our next stop, and my favorite part of the day, was the market. The Old Medina was exactly what you would picture Marakesh to be like. With endless rows of shopping, excitement and product offerings, I was completely overwhelmed. I wanted to explore and get completely lost, as everyone suggests doing, but I was also thrilled he had Jarna who helped us navigate and negotiate our way through the endless maze.
The endless maze has sections for various shopping interests. One area sold only spices and a few rows over you would find dozens of shops that just sold slippers. I was in complete heaven!
If you are venturing through the markets, be sure to bring some comfortable shoes. These Tory Burch flats fit right in!
Shop NowThat evening we had an incredible Moroccan dinner at the Amanjena Hotel. There was live music and it was one of those picture perfect nights that I {laughing} didn’t get a picture of. That’s kind of how you know it was an amazing night for me. Too happy to lift the phone. The food is still on my mind because it was so delicious. That dinner was definitely one for the record books.
On day two we hung out at the hotel and eased into the day with a little spa time. I wish I could go back! It was a drizzly morning so I’m happy we had plans to stay in. Later in the day we headed back to town to catch the sunset at the highly recommended riad {a “riad” is a traditional Moroccan house or palace with an interior garden} called El Fenn. We took in cocktails and an amazing sunset at El Fenn and then walked about 10 minutes to Royal Mansour which was, again, breathtaking. Everything in Marakesh is so grand! If you make your way in to Royal Mansour try to sneak into the spa to see the indoor pool. We then walked back to El Fennfor dinner and had post-dinner drinks back at the hotel
I had considered myself someone to have already been influenced by Moroccan interior design but boy were we in for a treat at El Fenn.
Overall I am still speechless over the short and very sweet time we had in Marakesh. In all honesty I really wish I had more time to explore, snap beautiful images and take a minute to get lost. I definitely cannot wait to return to this enchanting country. I was also so overwhelmed by the things that we were seeing that I felt like I didn’t always get the best photo or the most picturesque snap of what we were doing, but I hope this gives you a bit of insight on our trip. After all, the amazing team at 24 Sévres did say that they wanted us to relax and unwind and boy did we ever!
Have you ever been to Marakesh? What are some of your top recommendations?
