I was scrolling through the thousands and thousands of photos I have saved in dropbox the other day, looking for some old pictures I’d taken in Chicago a few years back.
My search walked me down memory lane a bit, with a smile across my face as I remembered trips, weekends and amazing experiences I’ve had over the years. There were so many photos, but a very small batch stood out to me. On our trip to Positano and Paris last year, Haleigh took a couple of disposable cameras with us. At the time I didn’t think much of it. She’s a bit younger than me and I figured it was something the “cool kids” were doing.
This was the camera that was used to snap all of the photos in this post.
Shop NowIt’s so crazy how photography has turned so digital, that many of us forget the fun of good ‘ole fashioned film photography. I was so excited to find these photos because they feel extra special. Each were one-take only, with no editing, no overthinking and no reshoots needed. As much as I love editing photos for my blog and Instagram, the idea of not being able to do that spawned a wave of creative energy buzzing in my mind. I have already started looking at photo subjects in a different angle, with different light. My mind has shifted slightly when I think about the taking a film photo versus digital. It’s a different art form that I am thirsty to learn more about.
If you are interested in an SLR camera, the Pentax K1000 is a great option, especially if you are a beginner. This Pentax is a solid manual 35mm camera, which gives you plenty of opportunities to perfect your manual adjustments.
Shop NowThis is one of the most popular cameras to learn the beginner basics of photography. It has every feature needed for great photos, and none of the unnecessary features that have been added in the past couple of decades.
Shop Now‘I want to take up film photography,‘ I thought to myself. But, I really don’t know where to start. I ordered a few disposable cameras to start {might as well keep it super simple at first right?}, but I’m curious if any of you have any pointers or tips? Perhaps I should enroll in a class in LA? Do you know of a good beginner camera? I’ve linked to a few below that I found while browsing online.
I’d love to hear from you in the comments below!
