Shoppers take your marks…it’s holiday sales shopping time!
But before you hit the ground running {or clicking} through all of the offerings that retailers have to promote this shopping season, I want to ask that we all take a deep, collective breath and go over some ground rules. Between Black Friday, Cyber Monday and all of the various promotions you will see across many online retailers, it can be so easy to get lost in translation.
That is why I am teaming up with my one of my favorite online shopping destinations, Amazon Fashion, to share some top tips on smart ways to shop through the sales this season. One of my number one rules when I come across a product that is on sale is to ask myself “Why?”
Why is this product on sale and is it because it might not be worth buying?
Another frustration that builds each holiday sales season is when I am looking for ways to save, but cannot seem to locate the area of a retailers website that is designated for “Sale.” Thankfully, the amazing folks at Amazon Fashion curated a page dedicated just for the incredible deals that they have going on on their site. With sections like Dresses Under $20 and Sweaters Under $30, it’s so easy to find those steals that will make your holiday shopping and gift giving a little bit less stressful {and hopefully save you that much needed cash}.

One of the many things I love about Amazon, are the amazing reviews that are available to their customers. Before I buy anything, I always check reviews and see how many stars the item got. It's so incredibly helpful and they've definitely helped from buying things that I would have returned!
With so much product online, I try to narrow things down by 3 or more stars {and ideally 5 or more reviews}.
Before bouncing around filling up your cart with all sorts of stuff you don't need, try making a list of things you feel are missing from your wardrobe. Then, set a realistic budget and try to stick to it!
When it comes to making sure that you are buying a good quality item {even on a budget}, the first thing I look for is what it's made of. You can get a strong sense of the garment and how well it will hold up over time by those percentages on the label.
When shopping for classic and timeless pieces on sale, make sure to avoid pieces that have big bulky hardware, ruffles or any trendy details or patterns. Big zippers, buckles and tassels, can tend to look dated over time and not wear as well. I also like to stick to a more neutral palette to ensure that everything can be mixed and matched seamlessly with what I already own.
One of the things that is a 'make or break' when it comes to making pieces look more expensive than they really are, is the fit. Ill fitting clothes never look chic {or make you feel good about yourself} and they definitely don't wear well over time. Scour the reviews for clues on the fit of the garment, but also avoid certain key words in the product title and description. Overall, I'd personally avoid anything that includes the words boxy, baggy, cropped or assymetrical.
If it doesn't end up fitting or working out, Amazon makes it so easy to return {love that about them!}
Thank you so much to Amazon Fashion for sponsoring this post.
