It all started on May 25th, 2017. You may have noticed my brief stint in Brooklyn last month which ended up not lasting as long as I’d originally planned on. Ladies, I had found myself in a true rut. After {finally} exiting the grieving period after William died I was hoping to switch things up and inject some happiness back into my life. Unfortunately, I came home from this “extended stay” in NY empty handed, and confused by what I was doing wrong. I was sick and tired of feeling sick and tired. Workouts felt torturous and I couldn’t seem to get my mind to switch from “woe is me” to “wow!” That was the day I decided to start a new morning routine that would change everything.
I invested in a Moleskin journal and having no idea where to begin, I simply went online and starting google searching positive quotes. Every day I would write these down. I put the date at the top of each day and committed myself to writing one page of quotes and one page of affirmations. “You are happiness” “You are a leader” “Your heart is beautiful and feels love” I started here and would do this every morning I woke up, before I picked up my phone.
After my blogger gal pal, Marianna Hewitt, saw me posting these daily quotes to my Instagram stories she recommended the book “Miracle Morning.” This took my routine to the next level.
This book was one of the best purchases I have made in 2017 so far. It is easy to read and truly registered with me in a way that is invaluable.
Shop NowSet alarm clock 1 hour earlier than the time I “need” to wake up to make time for my new “Miracle Morning” routine.
I made a list of things that make me feel my best. These are things that I do and can do on a daily basis that help me find my most true and authentic self. These things would vary from playing the piano and snuggling with Polly to keeping a strong morning and nightly skin care routine. Whatever it is, this list has to be just for you and fill up your inner self with confidence and assurance.
Meditate for 5 minutes every day. I didn’t really know how to do this until I researched a bit but now I am hooked!
Stretch. Slowly, breathing in and out. It’s the first thing I do when my feet hit the floor and it’s how my body wakes up.
When working on my morning routine, wether it be stretching or meditating I love to wear something comfortable. I am obsessed with this sleep set from Negative, it is so comfortable and I love the simplicity of both the top and bottom.
Shop NowTry something new. SK–II sent me a few new products to test out for a sponsored Instagram post which I ended up loving. “GenOptics Aura Essence” – I mean, how much better of a name could that be. I could feel my inner essence start to shine through every morning and night that I would take careful consideration and care toward my face. On top of this, I signed up for a meditation class, a pilots training class to go back to work on my pilots license AND booked a trip to someplace I’d never visited that’s driving distance from my house {Joshua Tree}.
I loved trying out this brightening serum by SK-II. Not only does it target dark spots and dullness, it leaves you skin feeling more radiant and smooth.
Shop NowRepeat. Repeat. Repeat. I cannot really express to you in a written word how big of a difference the power of consistency has played in my life over the past month. But I am genuinely starting to feel a true difference. This is my morning routine that I do every day before I get out of bed. It might not be for everyone, but I can promise you one thing. If you do something consistently, whether it’s working out, eating right or taking great care of your skin – you will see a difference.
Listen, I’m not saying that everything is all fine and dandy with my life now but I really do feel like I’m on the right track to turning things around. Have you guys ever found yourself in a rut? How did you get out?
