I’m a firm believer that food is one of the best ways to get to know a city or place.
Sure, exploring landmarks, museums etc. are super important – but there’s nothing like immersing yourself in the restaurant and bar scene to get to know a place, its people, its culture and overall vibe. Since Grant’s family has a cabin in Aspen, we’ve been visiting for years and it truly is one of my favorite places in the world. I’ve had so much fun and have so many amazing memories from this town.
While Aspen is no doubt a hot spot in the winter/ski season, I love Aspen just as much in the summer. There are so many activities to do outdoors and the scenery is just as gorgeous. While I was in Aspen the other week, I was able to visit some of my favorite local spots and thought I’d share them with you today. There are many delicious restaurants in town, but these top my list for sure!
J Bar: Located in the Jerome Hotel, J Bar is an institution in Aspen. The decor and atmosphere are amazing and the food is incredible! If you go, you need to order a burger. It’s seriously one of the best burgers I’ve ever had!
White House Tavern: This cozy and quaint tavern is also high on my list of favorite places to eat in Aspen. I highly recommend the crispy chicken sandwich {so good}! Since it’s fairly small and they don’t take reservations, I would try and eat there for lunch, which usually is less crowded than trying to go for dinner.
Campo de Fiori: If you are a pasta lover {or Italian food lover in general}, make sure to stop at Campo de Fiori! Unlike White House Tavern, they take reservations. If you can, try to sit outside – they have the most beautiful outdoor patio space which is delightful during the summer months.
Matsuhisa: If you are looking for the best sushi in Aspen, look no further than Matsuhisa. It is definitely one of our all time favorite sushi spots. The also have outdoor seating available in the Spring and Summer which is really nice!
Poppycocks: Looking for an amazing brunch spot? Make sure to check out Poppycocks which is steps away from the gondola. It’s the perfect way to fuel of up for a day of hiking and exploring. Their pancakes are world famous, so definitely order a stack for the table!
Woody Creek Tavern: If you are in the mood for Mexican food, stop by Woody Creek Tavern! It’s actually a fun spot to ride bikes down to, but make sure to have someone pick you up if you aren’t so keen on biking back uphill.
Ajax Tavern: Located at the base of Aspen mountain, Ajax tavern is just as great in the summer as it is for the ‘apres-ski’ crowd in the winter. The scenery and atmosphere are amazing – as is the people watching. If you go, make sure to order the truffle fries!
