‘Tis the season to get married or attend a summer wedding!
Even though my wedding was in September {check out these old photos!}, summer weddings are the hottest time to tie the knot. But there are definitely a few rules of thumb to follow when it come to being the best guest possible at any weddings you have coming up this summer.
Find my Summer Wedding Do’s and Don’ts below with a few throw back photos from my own wedding.
When it comes to having the perfect attire for any event {specifically a wedding}, knowing the dress code is the first step. It may seem obvious, but it truly is imperative in nailing your look. Beyond just how formal or casual the outfit is, it’s important to pay attention to the crowd. Will people be more conservatively dressed {i.e. if it’s a more religious ceremony} or will other attendees be playing it less safe. These are all things to consider that are surprisingly often overlooked.
This is a celebration, so don’t be afraid to reflect that in your outfit choice. Especially if it’s a summer wedding, people will be shying away more from the more classic neutrals. While you definitely don’t want to seem like you’re outshining the bride {I always stay away from red}, have a little fun with your look. Maybe try something outside of your usual comfort zone.
So maybe tons of color isn’t your thing, or maybe you found a gorgeous dress that is black. Don’t fear… you don’t have to have loads of color in your outfit to stand out. If you are opting for a black dress { or pantsuit etc.}, add a little something extra like a subtle pattern or some sparkle. There are so many black dresses out there that the options are truly limitless. Another option is adding in some color in your footwear. I have been seeing neon pumps everywhere recently and they are lots of fun. I also love a pastel colored strappy heeled sandal for a more subtle pop of color.
I probably don’t have to tell you that floral is in, especially for summer weddings. However, when searching the web for my favorite wedding guest dresses of the moment, I couldn’t help but notice that nearly every one I chose included some sort of floral. I love the variation that can be found with floral patterns these days, and they are the perfect happy pattern for someone’s special day. Plus, how cute is it when you and all your friends get a picture outside in your floral wedding attire!
Another assumption you could have easily made from this post, but truly, midi dresses are not going anywhere. While I gravitated towards floral dresses for this post, I was even more so drawn to dresses hitting mid-calf. They don’t have to be conservative by any means, and there is something about that length that is so elegant and flattering.
