I consider the master bedroom in any home as a sanctuary space. It requires extra care to mold it into a room that exudes the type of energy you wish to feel there.
When Grant and I moved into our new home, we knew we wanted a bedroom to feel extra cozy, warm and almost like a little den for us to retreat to, cuddle up in and enjoy hours of conversations while we lounged in bed. We worked with the amazingly talented interior designer, Martha Mulholland, on the space and really feel like she hit the nail on the head with the overall vibe and look that we were going for in our bedroom.
Lately I’ve been spending extra hours in bed at both night and in the morning reading, journaling and talking with Grant as we prepare ourselves for the baby to arrive. There are a few things I always have in my nightstand that I wanted to share, because I truly believe that what you sleep next to can have a huge impact on your overall health and well-being.
How a bedroom feels {and looks} can play a huge part in how well we rest and sleep – and that includes the nightstand.
I always have lip balm on my nightstand as my lips get super dry. I slather it on before bed so my lips feel moisturized and soft when I wake up. Carmex has been an all-time favorite of mine!
Lately I've been having headphones on my nightstand so that I can use the mediation apps on my phone {and not disturb Grant} which are helping me prepare for labor and delivery. It's been really helping with my sleep as well!
We totally fell in love with these vintage nightstands and think they fit perfectly in our bedroom! We are also obsessed with our linens which we picked up at Matteo. I highly suggest checking them out!
Often our nightstands tend to get cluttered with papers, products and knick knacks {I’m guilty} and I think that can definitely affect how we rest and sleep at night.
I love to journal every day and find that keeping mine by my nightstand {with a pen} is the best way for me to keep my routine. While I love to journal in the morning, I've found that writing in it before you go to sleep can help wrap up any unfinished thoughts and tasks from the day. It will help from keeping your mind up at night worrying about things!
I love having good books on my nightstand and usually have at least a couple. I'll have one or two that I'm reading {and that help distract me from grabbing the tv remote before bed} and some that I keep for inspiration. The Clarity Cleanse is one of my all-time favorite books and serves as a reminder to keep my well-being in check.
You know I love my candles, and lighting a candle on your nightstand provides a soft and soothing ambience in contrast to bright overhead lights and lamps. It helps to signal your body and mind that it's time to wind down, relax and get ready to rest your body and mind. One of my all-time favorite candles is Treehouse by Byredo and I've been lighting it non-stop!
