As the clock struck 5pm every evening in Florence, I would open my window at the Hotel Santa Maria Novella to the beautiful tunes being carried across the piazza. It was my favorite part of the day. The group would split up from our daytime activities to get ready for another memorable night in Italy. It was one of the only moments I was alone during the trip and surprisingly, thankfully and I never quite felt alone or homesick. Instead, I would listen to the same guitar player sing romantic covers and Italian ballads which left me feeling an overwhelming sense of happiness. I sent videos home, but I don’t think anything could properly capture this moment in time. Some moments aren’t meant to be shared. I sat on the brown velvet chair, legs flown across one of the arms and breathed in the time. This is one that will stay in my heart forever.
