Sometimes my heart simply burns for the city lights.
Luckily I was able to scratch my emotional itch for New York last week with a couple of days in the city. There are a few to do’s that are always on my list of things to experience while I am in the big apple. One of them is a run in Central Park. The other is to find my window. It’s the first thing I do in any and every hotel I visit. I find a perfect little cozy nook in the window and make a date with it for a night of perching.
On my last night I sat on the ledge I began the story . . . just as I have done in Paris, just as I did in Chicago, just as I always do in New York. I glance out and find someone in a distant building and start to watch them {this may sound creepier than it really is, ha!}. I watch them in their home or in their office and I start to read myself their story. Who is the person? What do they do? Are they happy? Are they sad? The same way that my Dad and I used to lay on the trampoline looking at starts and talking about how big the world feels is that same way that I look into these distant buildings, at these distant strangers in pure fascination.
It usually takes an hour, sometimes two and I’m always left with the same question I was left with on the trampoline: Is someone looking back?
