Summer ends, fall begins and it seems like I lose every ounce of motivation I once had to workout.
The warm weather makes me want to get out there, take runs in the neighborhood, eat fresher food, and it seems like I’m just naturally more active.
It’s so easy to get into a rut once the weather starts to cool and work starts to pick back up {I don’t know about you, but fall is always our busiest time over here at Damsel Inc}.
Here are my top five tips for staying motivated this time of year. It’s not easy for any of us, but these tips have helped me during this transition of seasons.
Find something that doesn't feel like working out. I love running and trying new workout classes. Grant loves cycling. My assistant Erin loves barre class. When you find something you love doing, you actually look forward to it. Try something new - you might just love it.
This is my favorite book and the book I tell anyone to read when they're trying to fall in love with running. I highly, highly recommend giving it a go!
Shop NowIt's so easy to forget about the goals we have set for ourselves. That's why I love putting sticky notes around my bathroom and office to keep me inspired and motivated. If you began feeling more energized when you were working out over the summer, remind yourself that you don't want to lose those endorphins that kept you happy and going throughout your day. Whatever those goals may have been, remind yourself of them daily.
There's nothing vain about new gear making you feel more inspired. Every time I buy a new sports bra, pair of running sneakers, or cute printed legging, I feel inspired to get more active.
I love this trick because there's nothing quite like having someone else hold you accountable. Even the most strong-willed and determined people sometimes need a buddy to help keep them on track. I love having a friend who I go on weekly hikes with or a friend who reminds me to stick to my healthy goals. It's also a fun way to bond with your friends {or you significant other, relative etc.}. You won't be able to make excuses {like we sometimes tend to do with ourselves} and you will have a newfound source of power and motivation.
This may sound cheesy, but believing in yourself is the ultimate secret to keeping up with your goals and maintaining success in whatever you're trying to accomplish. Believe that you can and will reach those goals, whatever they may be. It's so easy to forget that whatever we are trying to achieve can actually be done, but there is nothing more empowering than reminding yourself of this. We got this thing!
What do you do to stay motivated this time of year?
