Q&A 6 years ago How We Plan Content for Damsel in Dior
“How do you plan out your content, from social media to the blog?”
There are days that I have no idea what is going on the website tomorrow, and then there are posts that are already slated for February 2019 {it is currently August 2018}. It feels redundant, but once a week you should be having an editorial meeting where you sit down with a calendar and really strategize what posts you think should go up and when. Look for holidays, sales days, trips you are taking, personal experiences and any other quirky ideas you think people will be interested in. For example, I know my audience is starting to gear up their families to go back to school and are sad to say goodbye to summer, so we are working on posts that inspire readers to drag out those final days of sun and prep for an exciting fall ahead.
It’s better to haveĀ too much planning than not enough. Pre-shoot, pre-shoot, pre-shoot and you can always create content on a whim later. When I’m traveling I try to use stock imagery from trips that I’ve already taken. For example, I travel to Paris multiple times per year so we are always taking photos there. Often times my first few days of a trip to Paris, and hopefully you won’t notice this, I will be using images I took on my last trip that I saved up. It truly helps alleviate the pressure to always be creating original content.
There is also the time of day and how often you post to take into account. I have always told people that no matter what they are posting or how often they are posting, that it’s best to be consistent. Be consistent with your content and the time of day you are posting {across all mediums}. If you are posting food once a week, do it on the same day. If you post an outfit photo a few times a week, post them at the same times on the same days. This will give your readers a sense of trust in knowing what to expect when they come to your channel.
We also love strategizing how we can take one idea and use it across all of our different platforms in various ways. For example, I started Q&A Sundays on my instagram channel to help filter through the inquiries I was getting there and we have now turned it into an entire sub-category on the website which you are reading right now!
Listen to your readers, they will tell you what they want.
