Outfits 9 years ago First Snow
I wait for you every year and I will never forget the first time we met. I was walking outside, just off Lakeshore Drive in Chicago by the Drake Hotel. My memory cannot recall what events brought me to this area of town or what I was doing that night, but I remember the feeling all too well. It was my first year of college and even though I had seen you a time or two before, it wasn’t until this particular evening that I really saw you. I rushed outside after hearing a friend exclaim “It’s snowing!” and just as frost immediately bit at my nose and my instinct pushed me to retreat, something amazing happened. It wasn’t the sight. No, it wasn’t the breathtakingly beautiful sight of millions of tiny white snowflakes gracefully dancing down through the trees across the street, in the park where East Lakeshore Drive meets North. It wasn’t the melting pinch of ice as the pretty powder hit my enthusiastic cheeks. But it was the sound. The vibrant, silent, robust, muted and robust sound of snow. Yes, it was all of those things and so much more. A muted and creamy blanket of snowfall hugged around me in the most comforting way that I had always dreamed of without ever knowing that it even existed. It was like getting a gift you never knew you needed or wanted and it was in that moment that I learned to appreciate silence. I learned to appreciate the quite and peacefully serenity that came with sitting still and allowing the world around me to work its delightful magic.
I am ready for you snow. I’m waiting for you.
