Year after year the clock strikes midnight and suddenly it seems like all you see scrolling through your newsfeed are flash diets, new workout routines and an endless amount of chatter over who is starting what new health regime.
Instead of irrationally declaring that we are starting a new diet, with all new habits, we are simply going to start small and try out a few new healthier eating options for 2019. The team at Damsel Inc. has done some taste testing for you {it’s a tough job, we know} and narrowed it down to what we think are some pretty healthy alternatives.
I don’t know about you, but any time I’ve finally decided to commit myself to the idea of eating healthier the very first question I ask myself when I wake up is . . .

What’s for Breakfast?
The name may sound off-putting, but it’s definitely worth giving a shot. Mush is pre-made overnight oats, so you don’t have to go through any of the hassle. Best flavors are definitely Chocolate, Blueberry and Vanilla Bean. Also perfect for a midday snack – indulge your sweet tooth without the afternoon crash!
This cereal is a cleaner and less-processed version of Raisin Bran, made out of lentils {WHAT?!}. Less sweet for sure, but perfect in combination with the slightly sweeter Purely Elizabeth Granola. This granola adds some extra flavor to the mix, plus a bonus crunch that makes for a killer start to your day.
What’s For Lunch & Dinner?
Listen up because this is about to change your life! Nutrient-dense pastas made out of alternative ingredients are everywhere right now, and for good reason. From Whole Foods to Walmart, brown rice, lentil, and black bean pasta are kicking white flour in the butt.
Here are some of the best…
Top brands for lentil pasta include POW {they have an awesome green lentil option too} and Trader Joe's private label. With sauce, it tastes almost like regular old pasta, but with a bit more of a bite.
Shop NowBanza is the OG brand for chickpea pasta, and they keep coming out with fun new shapes and sizes.
Shop NowTastes almost exactly like traditional pasta. Great for people who want to stick with the classic pasta flavor and texture.
Shop NowFlavorless noodles made from the konjac yam. Add sesame oil, soy sauce or coconut aminos, tofu or chicken, veggies and sesame seeds for a delicious, well-balanced and extremely satisfying meal.
Shop NowWhat About Snack Time?
The flavors include Farmhouse Cheddar, Fine Grain Sea Salt, as well as Rosemary Sea Salt, and they are all fantastic. The crackers are made with almond flour so they pack a little extra protein and healthy fats in every bite.
These chickpea puffs are healthy, delicious and oh so addictive. Best flavor is hands down Vegan White Cheddar, although some {my mom included} would argue that it is Sriracha Sunrise.
Give Me Dessert!!

This is actually life-changing, and no, I’m not being dramatic. These chocolate bars have insanely clean ingredients and besides that, are just plain delightful. While all the flavors are wonderful, I would definitely recommend the Cashew Butter + Pure Vanilla Bean Dark Chocolate. It’s simply outstanding. Please note that this chocolate is pricey and is definitely a treat!
A less-sweet dessert alternative for those trying to lower their sugar intake. The healthy fat of the coconut butter makes them really filling and satiating too!
Disclaimer
We’re OF COURSE not saying there’s anything wrong with the old school versions of these foods. It’s just fun to experiment with new finds, and maybe even mix them into your current shopping list & recipes. It’s so easy to get stuck in the same old pattern at the grocery {and in life, ha!}, so no matter what it is, try picking something new out next time you shop. We also know that some of these products are pricey and inaccessible in certain places. See what’s out there in your area and budget! Whole, unprocessed foods are always a great option as well.
What are your favorite healthy finds? Comment below… We’d love to test them out over here at Damsel Inc.!
