Travel 10 years ago Damsel Digest: NY in December
When the Andaz Hotel offered to treat my husband & I to a holiday getaway, I jumped {jumped} at the opportunity.
After all, I consider New York to be my home away from home. However, each time I visit the city I see it in a new light. I was especially thrilled to try out a new hotel. In addition to the surprisingly large rooms {most hotels in NY have smaller rooms}, the delicious food and heavenly beds . . .The Andaz on 5th Avenue is perfectly located across the street from the NY Public Library and every day we opened the blinds to the beautiful structure, we were inspired to hit the streets on a new adventure.
Below you will find my favorite eat, drink, shop and must see spots in from my December trip to New York.
Pamela Barsky pouch found at Chelsea Market
To Eat
The Spotted Pig // 314 W 11th St., NY // Website // This is hands down one of my favorite eateries in NY. If you are a grilled cheese connoisseur like I am, then a pit stop at the Spotted Pig is a must! My routine involves getting dropped off at the Chelsea Market to pick up a Pamela Barsky pouch and then I walk down the High Line to this adorable, hole in wall that offers up a cozy atmosphere and killer food.
Catch // 21 9th Ave., NY // Website // I first ate a this seafood spot several years ago and I continue to re-visit it with each visit to NY. Located in the heart of Manhattan’s Meatpacking District, the Crab Spaghetti will leave you coming back for more time & time again.
La Esquina // 114 Kenmare, NY // Website // I’ve always said that I don’t believe NYC can do Mexican food, but then I was introduced to La Esquina. This haute Mexican eatery is harder to get into than Harvard and has built its reputation around fancy tequilas and ceviche. Walk into the diner, down the stairs, through the kitchen and into a hidden hideaway that offers tasty food and sweet tunes.
To Do
Radio City Christmas Spectacular // Website // There’s a reason why the Rockettes have been performing at Radio City Music Hall 1932. It’s classic, it’s timeless and it’s tradition. This is by far the best activity to get your family into the holiday spirit.
Central Park Ice Skating // Website // Ice skating in Central Park is hands down one of the most picturesque activities to be enjoyed on a winters day or night. Breathe in the crisp NY air, enjoy the holiday music and take in the incomparable surroundings as you ice skate on one of New York’s most famous rinks.
New York Public Library // Website // As many visits as I have made to New York City, it wasn’t until I was staying directly across the street from the public library, at the Andaz Hotel, that I was inspired to take a peak inside the third largest public library in the world. It’s definitely worth making a visit to and walking around the block to Bryant Park for lunch al fresco.
Walk Across Brooklyn Bridge // Website // This is one of those bucket list items that everyone needs to check off their list when visiting NY. With absolutely stunning views I promise this experience will not disappoint. If you start on the Manhattan side and walk your way over to Brooklyn, be sure to hit up Grimaldi’s for the best pizza in the city!
To Shop
Aritzia // 600 Fifth Ave. // Website // Conveniently located just a few blocks down from the Andaz on 5th rests one of my favorite NY stores to find beautiful basics and staples for your wardrobe.
TopShop // 578 Broadway // Website // Not all TopShop’s are created equal. This massive 40,000 square foot flagship store in Soho is hands down a must stop shop for anyone.
Cos // 129 Spring St. // Website // The newly opened Swedish offers men and women modern and functional design. I’ve visited Cos Store in Italy and France and I could not be more excited that they’re finally making their way over to the US.
