I am floating on my back. Easily, steadily, restfully and peacefully.
The pool water acts as a shield, a sound proof barrier, preventing the harmony of music and distant laughter from entering into my heart and soul. I am at peace, but I am also torn because I so desperately want to hear the sound; the sound of something beautiful. This inner struggle continues for as long as I can float, and boy can I float for a long time. But eventually, we all have to put our own two feet on the ground and stand up again. We are forced to make a choice to either sink and hear nothing but the sound of our own heart beat, or swim and hear the beautiful mixture of the world’s soundtrack.
Another February has come and gone. February always feels like the most important transitional month in the year to me because we are forced to accept the realities of a harsh winter endured and welcome the early buds of a spring bloom. Just as it may be easier to sink into the winter blues, it is the time in the year where we are asked to make a choice: to sink or swim ?
Sometimes it is very easy to curl up in a corner, wear all black and never leave the house. Hide. Just as it is the easier option to sink into the swimming pool of your own thoughts, it is easier to hide behind clothes. And this doesn’t apply to just clothes, it applies to the way in which we choose to style our lives. We can use a hat to cover our hair, or we can use that same hat to make a statement. We use make up to cover up what we feel are our biggest flaws and we use that exact same make up to accentuate our favorite features.
There are the clothes we wear to hide ourselves and there are the clothes we wear to show what we really stand for.
What do you really stand for?
