Last week I was thrown into a crazy scenario where I had hardly 15 minutes to get ready for a black tie event.
I had taken these photos earlier in the day, when I planned on wearing this beautiful dress by Lanvin to the party. However after a crazy day filled with meetings in Paris and hardly any time to get ready, I was racing around the room with a brush in one hand and make-up in the other laughing at myself about how I didn’t plan for enough time to get ready.
The lesson I learned? It doesn’t really need to take you a ton of time to get ready for a black tie event. The Dior team ended up sending me a dress to wear {that literally arrived as I was walking out of the door} and you can see my final look at the bottom of this post.
In the meantime, here are a few of my tips and tricks for pulling out a black tie look in 15 minutes or less.
Be it a cat-eye or fully-lined lids, eyeliner instantly elevates any beauty look. Since I didn’t have all day to get my liner just so, I tight-lined my lids, and then smudged it out for a subtle smokey eye.
Swipe a bit of Tom Ford’s highlighting duo on your cheekbones, brow bones, and just above your cupid’s bow, for an extra bit of shimmer (not shine).
When I have limited time to style my hair (5 minutes or less), I rely on Living Proof’s leave in mask to tame my tresses. In this case, I applied the mask to my roots and pulled back the rest of my hair into a messy chignon, for an effortless yet chic style befitting a black tie event.
I don’t wear a lot of jewelry, but the jewelry I do wear I invest in. This rose gold and turquoise bracelet from Piaget, is one of those unique pieces that I keep in my rotation for special events.
When in doubt, I opt for a natural lip. My go-to shade: Bobbi Brown’s lipstick in nude.
Don’t have time to shower (we wont judge)? Choose a luxurious fragrance like Tom Ford’s Noir de Noir, and no one will ever know you came post gym.
This was the dress I ended up wearing. The mask ended up working to my benefit, covering up any make-up mistakes that I might have made in my rush.
Do you like getting dolled up for black tie? What are some of your getting ready rituals?
