‘Tis the season for eating, drinking, entertaining and dressing up your dining room table like the grown up hostess we all aspire to be.
As you guys know, we are finally starting to settle in to our new home and even though our formal dining room is not entirely done, I wanted to post a sneak peek at our dining room after we got these amazing chairs from Serena & Lily.
Firstly, I wish I could take credit for the way our dining room effortlessly fits together, but without the incredible talent of Martha Mulholland, we would have never been able to make this vision a reality. We will be sharing many, many more posts from our new home featuring Martha’s work and even interviewing her for tips and tricks, so please feel free to leave comments below if you have any questions for her!
When Martha suggested these chairs by Serena & Lily, I must admit that at first I was a bit shocked to bring rattan into a formal dining room space. But I genuinely love how they push the room into feeling more approachable and less stuffy. I’ve been a long time lover of all things Serena & Lily and after visiting their new design shop in Palisades Village, it has pushed my obsession into the next realm! For those of you who live in the SoCal area, it is a must-shop store {but don’t say I didn’t warn you}.
The holiday season is the perfect time to give your dining room a little mini-makeover. Below, I’m sharing 6 quick tips to making your holiday table shine like the entertaining pro you want to show your Mom you are.
When in doubt, light that puppy up with candles. They are such an inexpensive way to dress up your table. My philosophy is, 'the more the merrier.' I love nothing more than loading up my holiday tablescape with a ton of candles. Just be sure that they are unscented.
Always, always have a pitcher of water on the table and glasses to serve it in. There is nothing worse than being a guest at a dinner party who is parched for a glass of water.
On my dining chair must-have list was a cozy cushion and side arms to make sure my guests always feel at home and comfortable.
Shop NowHave fun with place cards! If you're looking to avoid awkward moments where guests are trying to figure out who sits next to whom, use place cards! You can also write cute little quotes or sayings on the place cards if you aren't into picking seating assignments.
We have had this place setting for years and it's still a favorite! It transitions from season to season very well and matches well with almost any tablescape.
Shop NowI love a good candlestick! These are my favorites by Serena & Lily.
Shop NowAdd little pops of pumpkin or Fall foliage to your Thanksgiving table to bring in the natural elements of the outdoors.
Always have a game. I don't mean a board game or something crazy, but in the event that the energy starts to drop before dessert is served, pass out little pieces of paper for everyone to write down what they are most thankful for. Toss them in a bowl and pass it around for everyone to read out loud.
Nothing says you have your life together more than multiple salt and pepper shakers at the dinner table {haha}. Plus, no one wants to be rude in asking for the salt to be passed, so it just makes it easier on guests to flavor their food.
Are any of you planning on hosting Thanksgiving or a holiday feast this season? How many people do you have over? What pro tips can you share? Please leave a comment below!
This year Grant and I are staying on the home front since I’m currently cooking a baby in my belly, but I still plan on hosting many dinner parties throughout the holiday season. I cannot wait to start warming up our new home and sharing new posts of the space with you all.
