Health 6 years ago Fun Creativity Exercises To Kick Off 2019
We’re all thinking the same thing. It’s a brand new year with endless possibilities, but where shall we begin?
Even though my intention is set to brainstorm, exercise my creative energy and start to hit the ground running on new projects and initiatives at the start of a brand new year, sometimes I get stuck. At the start of each year, I get a new Moleskine journal and I write down the following: current stats, my state of mind, bank account numbers, weight… basically an entire personal inventory of my life. I then use the first few pages to brainstorm and set goals. But this year I want to try something different. I recently came across a few fun creativity exercises that felt like they would lead me down a different direction that my usual brainstorming session. So I thought I would share a few of my findings here.
Zero Draft
This is a form of free-style writing that allows you to focus on the first stages of a new project by establishing what you already know and what you do not know about a subject. Don't stress about it looking sloppy or organized. The idea here is to get past the initial road blocks that weigh us down in the beginning stages of working on a new project. Here's how you do it:
- Write down everything you know about your idea or topic.
- Make a list of what you need to know or want to know about the topic
- Write down reasons why this is important to you
Sticky Note Your Way To The Goal
Get a bunch of post-it notes and jot down every single quote, picture, idea or subject on separate notes. It doesn't have to be well thought out or perfect but once you have written down all of your hopes, dreams, goals and ideas - stick them on a wall and analyze. Start to arrange the notes into groups/themes and then organize them into a timeline {first this, then that}. Notice connections and eliminate any post-its that do not support your end goal.
S.W.O.T.
Strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats. Whatever you are working on, sit down and make a list of SWOT to organize ideas and concepts. This can apply to not only new business ideas {a new logo perhaps} but also fitness goals and personal goals as well.
Force It
If you are trying to introduce your brand to a new demographic or concept, try this brainstorming technique: Bring a bag of random ideas to the desk OR draw up two lists of completely unrelated items on a piece of paper. For example: A banana and a laptop. Explore different ways these items can be connected. You may discover some unrealistic and silly results, but the idea is to help get you out of a creative rut.
Revisit Your Childhood
Write down a list of things you loved doing as a child and pick one of those things - do that activity for a full day and see what happens!
