It’s no secret that I’m the biggest fan of taking a nice, long bath.
On average, I probably take somewhere between 3-5 baths per week. It is hands-down the quickest, easiest {and cheapest} way for me to decompress after a long day. During my pregnancy, I had to significantly reduce the heat and time I spent in the tub, along with how frequently I soaked. So, now that Baby Damsel has arrived, it feels so incredible to add this nice treat back into my routine.
I didn’t really realize just how much I missed my bath time until I started soaking on the regular again. After questioning if it was just me, I found a few top reasons that prove why hot baths can be beneficial to your overall well-being, that I thought I’d share here. You know, just in case you need more justification to spend time doing a nice, long soak this week.
Heat gets the blood moving!
Warm water is not only great for circulation {more on that later}, but can also help sore or tight muscles to relax. After running up and down our stairs all day and lifting the baby up and down on repeat, nothing feels better than allowing my muscles to decompress.
A hot bath helps you sleep better.
I’ve never valued my sleep more than I do now, but to actually allow myself to fall asleep, has been quite the challenge. However, some scientists claim that taking a warm bath before bed can signal the production of melatonin {i.e. the sleeping hormone} and reduce your core body temperature, which will prepare you for a better night’s rest.
A bath keeps your heart healthy.
Not only does it make my heart smile, but apparently taking a warm bath decreases blood pressure which can help to avoid more serious conditions. Because heat increases better blood flow, some researchers say that you are keeping your heart healthy.
It’s a mini workout!
You read it correctly! Some studies show that people who suffer from diabetes who soaked in a hot tub regularly for 20-30 minutes, 6 days a week, actually ended up losing 2.5 pounds a month! Sounds like my kind of workout!
