Travel 6 years ago 10 Unexpected Places To Travel To This Summer
Do you ever feel like you plan vacations to the same places each and every year?
Or perhaps you find yourself making repeat destinations. I’m not arguing against it. Lord knows I’ve been to Cabo more times than I can count {LOVE Cabo} and I will never turn down a trip to Italy, but for the sake of trying to think outside of the box this summer, I have put together a list of 10 places you might want to consider. Don’t get me wrong, every place mentioned below is absolutely fantastic. But if you’re thinking about a repeat trip to Palm Springs and want to try something else, this list is just for you!
Are any of these places on your list? What unexpected vacation are you trying to plan this year?
Instead of Cabo - Go to La Paz, Mexico
I've seen La Paz slowly but surely start to pop up on my Instagram feed. While Cabo has been a popular spot for years, La Paz is gaining more and more popularity. It's a little bit more laid-back than Cabo, but has everything you'd want out of a nice and relaxing Mexico vacation.
Instead of The Hamptons in New York - Go to Cape Cod, Massachusetts
It's slowly becoming the time of year where New Yorkers flock to The Hamptons. While it truly is a magical and easily accessible destination for east coasters, you might also want look into Cape Cod. You'll get a similar beach experience and charm of the different towns, but it is generally less crowded in comparison.
Instead of Palm Springs - Go to Joshua Tree, California
I have been dying to check out Joshua Tree. Last year my trip was canceled, but I've been wanting to plan a trip there asap. It may not be known for the glitz and glamour of Palm Springs, however this more artsy and bohemian location has lots to offer, including cool Instagram-worthy spots to stay at, and is perfect for a weekend getaway. Also, be sure to hit up Airbnb for a cool house to stay in.
Instead of The Maldives - Go to Mauritius
The Maldives have long been a vacation hot spot. While Mauritius might not have all the exclusivity that The Maldives are known for, you'll get just as beautiful of a vacation experience that feels a little bit more relaxed, with a lot more to explore. But honestly?! You cannot go wrong with either of these exquisite destinations!
Instead of St. Tropez - Go to Porquerolles, France
They call it 'The French Riviera's Last Frontier.' While you can't deny the fabulousness of St. Tropez, Porquerolles is only a stone's throw away and is just as beautiful, but way less touristy.
Instead of Miami - Go to Siesta Key, Florida
Miami might be one of the biggest hot spots in Florida, but Siesta Key is known for having some of the best beaches in the US and is a great alternative for a getaway to Florida.
Instead of Turks & Caicos - Go to Grenada
If you love the beauty and luxuriousness of Turks & Caicos, try visiting Grenada. Grenada, which is known as the 'Spice of the Caribbean,' is just as stunning and feels a little bit more pristine and unspoiled.
Instead of Positano - Go to Sperlonga, Italy
One of my all-time favorite places that I've traveled to has been Positano, but if you are looking for a similar destination but without the hype (i.e. less overrun by tourists), try Sperlonga. Sperlonga is just as gorgeous and charming, but a little bit more tranquil and has often been called an 'Italian hidden gem.'
Instead of Lake Como - Go to Lake Iseo, Italy
Sure, George Clooney might vacation in Lake Como (and it is pretty spectacular), but a nice alternative is Lake Iseo. Located between Lake Como and Lake Garda, Lake Iseo is a little bit more obscure and less touristy, but is still breathtakingly beautiful, with quaint villages and amazing restaurants.
Instead of Ibiza - Go To Dubrovnik
As another European hotspot, Ibiza is known for its beachside glitz and glamour and incredible nightlife. Recently Dubrovnik, Croatia has come up on my radar and it is definitely on my travel list. The beaches along the Adriatic seas are absolutely stunning and there are tons of amazing places to stay, restaurants to eat at and sights to see.
