Brooklyn Bound

I’m moving to Brooklyn. Okay, not really. I absolutely love living in Los Angeles. However we rented an apartment in the Williamsburg area of New York for a few weeks to explore a new place and try something new. After all, we have no kids, flexible jobs and … well, why not?!

Whenever I head somewhere new it’s nice to pack something new. Thankfully my friends at Net-a-Porter hooked it up with a few new pieces for my carry on. This striped tee by The Great is on constant rotation. I wore it on my flight and to dinner on my first night out.

Okay, I need to pause for a moment and tell you how amazing The Four Horsemenย {restaurant} is. Wow. No, but really: WOW! I had the goat cheese to start and the husband and I split crispy potatoes, skirt steak and a salad. The entire meal I was letting out “oohs” and “aahs” at how wonderful it was. I’m not going to lie, I think I’m the most excited about trying out all of the wonderful food options in Williamsburg.

If you have any recommendations, please leave them in the comments! I will be sharing a full travel guide on the Brooklyn / Williamsburg area once my travels are complete.

Jacey, I live in Brooklyn (BK Heights) and would recommend skipping down slightly south for a few things: first, the Brooklyn Heights Promenade has the best view of lower Manhattan — watch the sunset from there one night. Stroll the streets of Brooklyn Heights for some turn of the century architecture including federal style row houses (some of which were part of the underground railroad). Fort Greene neighborhood is also worth a bike ride or stroll (South Oxford street towards Fort Greene Park has been names one of the most beautiful streets in America). If I had to suggest one restaurant in “brownstone Brooklyn” I’d recommend Bar Tabac in Cobble Hill (laid back French bistro with live gypsy jazz in the evenings). Williamsburg is super fun but there is lots more to see in Brooklyn ๐Ÿ™‚

It’s seriously SO awesome that you can just rent an apartment and do these kind of things! Love following along. Although I’ve lived in New York City my entire life, I have yet to really take advantage of Brooklyn. You’ve definitely encouraged me to do so!

  • WELCOME TO THE NEIGHBORHOOD!! You’re going to love it. Born and raised NYer – you’ll never want to leave. My recomendation … would to be head out east and explore the eastern end of Long Island. Montauk, Greenport (wineries on the Northfork), Hamptons etc. Happy exploring!!

    • Forgot to mention since those areas are SEASONAL and seems you came at just the right time. Lobster rolls and rose all day xo

The rooftop bar at the William Vale Hotel is a MUST! It’s too perfect for cocktails and Instagram pics. You will absolutely love it!

Nice to see we chose some similar spots in the hood. I missed a few, but you got them covered!

  • Talia Bagi

Welcome to the neighborhood! Williamsburg is so full of amazing restaurants and it seems like every new place I check out does the previous place I loved. Cafe Colette is one of my favorite spots, and they have excellent brunch and cute outdoor seating. Another great place to check out is Devocion. It’s a stunning coffee shop more on the south side of Williamsburg with the largest living wall (aka very photo worthy). I’m sure you have heard of Five Leaves, it’s great but always so over crowded so not my first choice even though the Ricotta Pancakes are to die for. Across the street from Five Leaves is a place called Sauvage. This place has killer decor (south of France inspired), but they have recently changed chefs and I’m not sure how the menu is now. I don’t want to make this comment too long so I’ll list a few others in bullet point form below! Enjoy!
    Fette Sau – awesome BBQ
    Oslo Coffee Roasters
    Hotel Delmano – great cocktails

Shelter – delicious wood fired food
Mister Dips – great soft serve out of an Airstream Trailer
Paulie Gees – by far my favorite pizza in New York. Located in Greenpoint (just north of Williamsburg) this place is the bomb!
Westlight – I may argue this has the best view of the city. Also great cocktails and deserts!

I hope there are helpful. Come back and visit again!!!

Check out Aurora — it’s this cosy rustic Italian restaurant with a beautiful patio and the pasta is to die for. Used to go a lot when my brother lived in Brooklyn.

  • Erin

Jacey, I hope you are loving williamsburg as much as I do! You have to go to Lilia. It was unbelievable! You also have to try the burger at Emmy Squared! Emily the original is amazing too, but located in Clinton Hill.

Hotel Delmano and the Ides at the Wythe Hotel are other favorites and if you’re looking for a dive bar where you can bring Polly, Lucky Dog is always full of pups and they have a one pound margarita (need I say more?)

Also Marlow and sons and mister dips! ๐Ÿ”๐Ÿฆ

Antica Pesa is insanely good. I lived by their Roman location during my study abroad and trek over to BK once a month for my cacio e pepe fix.
