7 Tips for Packing in 1 Bag

One of the most common questions I get asked is this: How do you pack in 1 carry-on for vacation? I have to be honest here and say that I absolutely despise checking bags at the airport. When I get to my destination I want to hit the ground running as soon as the wheels hit the pavement. Without further adieu, here are my 7 tips on packing in 1 carry-on for your summer vacation.

Tip #1: Start the process on a high note by busting open a tasty bottle of white wine & putting on an inspiring playlist. My favorites are Seven Daughters Chardonnay for summer packing & blasting my new “Summer 15 Packing” playlist to set the mood.

Tip #2: Pack swimsuits that can easily be mixed and matched. Before you know it, two swimsuits will turn into four options.

Share

Share

Tip #3: Everything is empty real estate for jewelry, undies and other small items on your packing list. Use the inside of purses & shoes to tuck pieces inside.

Share

Tip #4: Pouch It! Your make up goes in one pouch, your hair stuff in another and your electronics should always be kept in a separate pouch. This will help you stay organized and limit yourself on the amount of product you will take.

Share

Share

Tip #5: Pick A Color. Pick one color of shoe to center all of your outfits around. You only need 1 heel & 1 flat. End of story.

Share
Share

Tip #6: Snap photos while you pack of each outfit. This will help you to reference looks that you mismatch different pieces on. For example, if you pack 1 pair of shorts that you are pairing with 4 tops you can remember what you paired with what.

Tip 7: Invest in a great piece of carry-on luggage that can fit everything easily. My favorite is the Tumi International Carry-On.

No matter how many of these packing tips I read, I still never get it right when packing and trying not to pack too many unnecessary things.

  • Ah yes, I basically follow the color rules that you mentioned with the shoes and the mismatching… love the idea of just taking outfit photos on the phone instead of writing it all out… why didn’t I think of that?! x

  • Such nice clean and simple images to reflect and detail of the packing process. Nicely thought out. 🙂

I love that the first word of advice is music and alcohol, of course! My packing routine generally involves a great deal of sulking

  • Love step 1 – always start with wine. For some reason my adventures in packing tend to be marathons, and I’ve found that a little wine goes a long way to help de-stress and focus on the upcoming trip vs. what I’m gong to wear.

  • Love this post – such beautiful photos!

  • These are great tips, pairing bikinis differently is such a good one! Also love the idea of puching everything, and I totally dont do that enough or I use sturdy big make-up bags which take up way toi much space. Love travelling with a carry-on, makes everything flow so much more smoothly 🙂

  • I absolutely LOVE Tumi… Their suitcases hold so much more stuff and are so durable. Also, the higher quality zippers? Game changer. Theres nothing more annoying than a cheap suitcase that has a crappy zipper! Completely worth the investment. Also, I couldnt agree more about the wine. Wine makes everything better 🙂

  • I think I’d have too much fun trying on and snapping pics of outfits (with wine involved, of course) that I’d never get the suitcase actually packed! Too much fun. But seriously, some great tips that spark that “why didn’t I think of that” thought.

Not a good idea… and I think I do that bc I love shoes and love adding something interesting to the outfit through shoes… but is not a good idea if you wanna travel light! hahaha great post! 😀
