Rather than doing a traditional “What I Want Wednesday” post this week, I thought it would be fun to do a post on what every Damsel should invest in during her 30s. Hope you enjoy!
1. A classic black blazer // When ever in doubt, you can always reach for any outfit and throw on a killer black blazer and you’ll look like a million bucks.
2. A good skincare line // The first skincare regimen that I followed {and continue to follow to this day} is Arcona. It wasn’t until giving the starter set a test for 2 straight weeks that I learned what a huge difference following a routine can make for your face.
3. Clarisonic Brush // Speaking of good skin care regimens, while you are at it you should 100% invest in a Clarisonic brush. Not only will it save you trips to the facial esthetician, but your super clean face will thank you.
4. A piece of cashmere // Whether it be a scarf, a throw, or a snuggly sweater every woman over the age of 30 deserves a piece of cashmere.
5. Kick ass bag // There is one thing I can promise you and it is this: If you take the time to invest in an amazing handbag you will 100% not regret it. Not only does it feel fabulous to have one on your arm, but a good handbag can make a $10 t-shirt look like a million bucks.
6. Good Bedding // Surprisingly, we spend 25 years of our life sleeping. So, why not invest in a soft place to lay your head? Right now I am drooling over Parachute Bedding!
7. Lacy lingerie // What’s on the inside is just as important as what’s on the outside right? That’s why your 30s are a good time to ditch that ratty pair of boy shorts & start to put your money toward good undergarments.
8. DVF Wrap Dress // Because it’s proven to stand the test of time.
9. Respectable Luggage // You know the feeling when you are embarrassed to reach for your bag at the claim? Well, you shouldn’t feel that way. Investing in a sturdy piece of luggage is equally important to investing in a good handbag. I’m not saying you have to go out and buy all Louis Vuitton carry on bags. Put your money toward something strong that will stand the test of time. I personally love Tumi luggage. I’ve had mine for years and it still looks great!
10. A Budget // Hopefully you set up a pretty safe budget in your 20s, but your 30s are a time to reassess and plan for the future. Your budget should adjust to life changes such as getting married, having kids or starting your own business. Once you are in your 30s, you may be making more money & will have more goals so be sure to determine how you are going to balance it out.
11. The adventure of a life time // I’m not saying you have to fly around the world and back. But your 30s are a wonderful time to plan that vacation you have always dreamed of. Whether it’s seeing the Grand Canyon or hiking Mt. Kilimanjaro, use that 30 year old energy to see something spectacular.
12. Friendship // It seems like everyone in their 30s is zeroed in on one of two things {or both}: family & career. Sometimes it’s hard to carve out that much needed time with your girls but carrying friendships from your 20s into your 30s is of upmost importance! Don’t take this one for granted.
13. Your Health // Hopefully you’ve been already doing this in your 20s but if not, now is the time to start to honestly taking care of yourself. Get a physical exam, eat well & find a work out routine that works for you.
14. A terrific trench // You can throw it over a white blouse & jeans, a dress or even a suit. Come rain, snow or shine there is one coat that is perfect for layering and loving and that is a trusty trench.
15. Personalized Stationary // Never underestimate the value of a hand written note. As a grown woman, it’s high time to start sending hand written thank you notes for any and all meetings, parties and other sweet gestures.
16. A live household plant // Or a live something {baby, dog…} for that matter.
17. A good watch // A watch that you can feel proud of will give you more than just the time.
18. A signature scent // By now you should know what works and for what season. There’s nothing better than the scent of a woman as she passes you by wearing a fresh floral scent for spring, or a dark musky spice for fall.
19. Wooden Hangers // Okay, so this might be a personal preference, but think about it this way: You buy them once and then you feel great every time you walk into your closet?
20. Grown Up Work Out Clothes // I’m all for wearing that college Delta Zeta t-shirt to work out in. However, it’s also high time to invest in some real work out clothes that you feel so great in, you might even wear them out to drinks with the girls post-run. {When in doubt, go with all black}
21. An “I’m a woman hear me roar” Toolbox // And no, I don’t mean a box filled with tools that you dated in your past. I mean a legit toolbox that is complete with screwdrivers & a hammer.
22. Your relationship // If you’ve got a man that you love, be sure to make time to nurture that relationship. Just because you are settling into things doesn’t mean you can’t still set up cute dinner dates & leave notes on his car window. If you are rolling solo, then be sure to make time to nurture that relationship. Take time out of your busy schedule for you. Treat yourself to a spa day, movie night or that subscription to Paris VOGUE you’ve been thinking about.
23. A Sick Pair of Sunnies // Even though I think that everyone, 30 or not, should own a sick pair of shades that they are proud to wear.
24. Bubble Bath Basics // Hopefully you have a bath tub & if you do by now you should have the proper set up for a nice bubble bath. Bath oils, salts & whatever else it takes to get things straight for some relaxation.
25. A “Go To” Dinner Recipe // Having friends over for a nice dinner on the fly shouldn’t send you into a tail spin. Pull from your mothers recipe box or create your own bomb dish that makes you look like Emeril. Visit my “Food + Drink” Pinterest board for fun recipes I’ve found on Pinterest.
26. Good Sunscreen // I hope I don’t have to say this more than once: You need to put sunscreen on. Period.
27. Top Tailor // You won’t realize the value of a good tailor until you have one. Trust me, they are worth finding.
28. A favorite book // One of the first things I check out in a persons home is what books they have on their shelves. Not only does this serve as a great insight into the individual’s taste, but it’s also good conversation starter.
29. A Juicy Past // Or one that’s at least juicy enough to smile about later.
30. Pretty Pajamas // The minute I hit 30 I ditched my ratty PJ pants & boxed up my college tees. Investing in a few great pairs of silky pajamas was one of the best choices I made.
