Family 4 years ago The 7 Things I Regret Doing While Pregnant
Hindsight is always 20/20, but there are definitely a few things I wish I hadn’t done during my pregnancy.
Minus drinking caffeine, eating fatty foods and other obvious things you aren’t supposed to do while you are pregnant, I wanted to offer some true insight on a few things I genuinely regretted doing during my pregnancy. While I don’t really believe in regret, because everything teaches us, I do kind of regret a few of the following:
1. Who Let Me Chop Off My Hair?
Right before we announced our pregnancy I was packing up for New York and Paris Fashion Week. I knew that I would be announcing and I wanted to still feel “edgy” and “fashion forward” so I thought it’d be a good idea to chop my hair with a blunt angle. It looked great for a few weeks but then I definitely missed my longer hair. I vote to hold off on doing any major hair adjustments. Sometimes the choices we make during pregnancy are based on hormones {ha, this was one of mine}.
2. I Stopped Working Out
This was probably my BIGGEST regret. I was so tired, so exhausted and so drained that I simply let working out fall by the wayside and boy did my waist side pay for it. Outside of the obvious, I gained 66 pounds, I have really been struggling to get back on track postpartum. I feel like my body just went through war. The labor was also more exhausting. I wish I would have at least kept up my walking game during the pregnancy because I have never felt more out of shape in my life. I know that labor/delivery is hard, I just wish I would have kept some sort of work out routine instead of giving up.
3. No Plans = No Fun
I truly let my social life go to shit during my pregnancy. I don’t know why I did this but I seemingly threw a pity party for myself, especially toward the end, thinking “who wants to hang out with me? I’m no fun. I can’t drink. I’d rather just sit on the couch.” This was a horrible idea because I started to go stir crazy. I wish I would have forced myself to stay busy by making plans with friends.
4. Don’t Do A Home Renovation
It’s funny because 9 times out of 10 when I’m talking to a pregnant woman she is also doing a big house project at the same time. Maybe chalk it up to nesting, but remodeling our master bathroom and closet was not the best idea.
5. I OverRead
Every.single.night of my pregnancy I would be up reading all sorts of articles about childbirth, nursing, which bottles to use, what swaddle to use. Honestly, some of it was helpful but the majority was a time killer. I wish I’d read 25% of what I had. There are SO many stories, articles and forums to dive in to but you really aren’t going to know until you have had the baby.
6. Wait Before You Buy
I purchased a ton of unnecessary things for June before she was born. Again, you aren’t going to know what your baby likes or needs until you have her. I was panicked thinking I would “need” something but honestly, you can just get what you need. Things move REALLY slow with newborns. You’ll have time to get diapers, and bottles, and everything else afterwards. We purchased an entire set of bottles {20 of them!} but our daughter hated them so they went to donations.
7. Don’t Travel Too Late
If you are wanting to travel or take a baby moon, make sure to do it right in the middle of your second trimester. I waited a little too long and was completely miserable on the return flight home.
