I was surprised to see that the ice skating rink had already opened as I took my usual stroll on the lower part of Central Park.
For a brief moment, I strongly considered taking a twirl. After all, one of the things on my bucket list is to go ice skating in Central Park. Ever since I watched Serendipity I have had a romantic notion about the idea.
Instead, due to the fact that I was about to jump into a car for the airport, I perched on a nearby rock to watch over the skaters. Round and round they went, swiftly gliding across the ice. There were a few couples holding hands, several children with wobbly legs who were desperately grabbing the walls for support, and even a few teenagers who crashed and burned a time or two.
My instincts, per usual, itched to jump up and move toward the next activity of the day. But, just as I sat on the park bench in July, I forced myself to stay in the moment. I remember feeling a great sense of relief that last time I sat with myself, so I did it again. Sometimes I feel like we are all so relentless in our hustle of life, racing home from the office, making that 8:30pm dinner reservation, reaching that bonus and checking off those bucket list items, that we sometimes forget to actually enjoy the moment.
I sat on the edge of the ice rink and watched life skate by.
Since the holidays always present a lot of hustle and bustle to family functions, ski trips and weekend getaways, having a good weekender bag is essential. I really love this new black one that I carried back to LA with me. It also has a long strap!
It’s just large enough to pack a few days worth of clothes but small enough to carry on a stroll through Central Park.
