Q&A 6 years ago Q&A with Jacey's Assistant
How did you guys meet?
Haleigh: I met Jacey at the Edition Hotels in New York two years ago. I had been interning with a few fashion designers after college and saw she was in the city for work so I emailed her asking to get coffee. I remember freaking out before the meeting about what to wear and if a leather jacket was interview appropriate. I got there early and then Jacey rolled in straight off of a run and sat down in work out clothes, I was so relieved she was not dressed up.
Jacey: Haleigh e-mailed me in May 2016 when I was visiting New York for a friend’s wedding. She said she was looking for a job and I was hiring at the moment so we grabbed coffee at The Edition. I changed my flight to stay an extra day to train her and eventually talked her into moving to the “best coast” and working here full time.
What’s her day-to-day like?
Haleigh: Jacey usually comes out to the office at 9am checks in with me, goes to meetings and takes calls throughout the day. If she’s going through a work out phase she runs through the neighborhood before work. She talks to her management team two to three times a day, takes an outfit pic with Grant and then around 5pm we close up the office. She likes to wrap up work with a bath and a glass of wine. Jacey doesn’t really work the usual 9-5 schedule so sometimes she continues to work at night and on the weekends, she never really shuts work off.
Jacey: Haleigh rolls in late then has to leave to go get coffee and usually starts her day off stalking Will Smith’s Instagram account until about 11am. All jokes aside, her day-to-day is very different depending on what we have going on. She does anything from putting statistics reports together to helping out with styling shoots. Haleigh uploads and maintains all content that goes on the website and also tracks and manages all sponsored content, contracts, calls, schedules, etc.. She’s a jack of all trades.
What’s her favorite cuss word?
Haleigh: Fuck
Jacey: Fuck
What was your favorite travel experience?
Haleigh: When we went to Italy with Tom Ford, it was my first time to Europe and we want to Paris and Positano. We stayed in the biggest suite I could have ever dreamed up at the Peninsula Paris hotel and the coolest Italian hotel Il San Pietro in Positano. The trip was not just the highlight of my year but definitely the best most luxurious travel experience I’ve ever had.
Jacey: Cabo with the girls 😉
What’s her favorite drink?
Haleigh: Vodka soda with Tito’s vodka
Jacey: Depending on her mood. Haleigh loves a good margarita but will drink vodka soda’s too
What have you learned most from her?
Haleigh: Outside of working at Damsel Inc. where I learned so much from a professional stand point. I learned a lot from her from a personal standpoint like how to push for the things you really want in life and how to be a bad ass business women. On a less serious note I also learned to always throw away beauty products after a few months {because who knew they can expire}, to talk quietly in fancy hotel lobbies and a little trick to always remind yourself which fork is for the appetizer and which one is for the desert at a nice dinner.
Jacey: We were traveling to Paris and it was Haleigh’s first trip to Europe. As we de-boarded the plane at CDG, she began {literally} skipping down the hallways singing “We’re in Parrrrrrisss.” When we checked into the Peninsula she almost lost her mind running around the hotel room. It was like watching a little kid in a candy store. In an industry that can sometimes skew toward people acting jaded and snobby, Haleigh is a constant reminder that the things we get to do, and events we are invited to are F-U-N.
Inside Joke?
Haleigh: “Donnnn’t say it!!!” or “Ah beautiful wish you were here”
Jacey: “Don’t say it…..” or “JaceyandHaleighRemember”
How do you balance friendship and work life?
Haleigh: It would be impossible to spend 8 hours a day with someone everyday for two years without becoming great friends. I don’t think there’s anyone that talks to Jacey more in the day {besides Grant} than me. At the end of the day, Jacey is my boss and that has always come first but that’s not to say we don’t have a lot of fun together. We use our slack channel to talk about work and then we text to talk about non-work related things and then are constantly dm-ing each other ideas and funny things on Instagram.
Jacey: We try to keep things as pro-fessional in the office as we can and carve out time outside to turn “off” work talk. We rarely, unless we are on work trip, will talk about work when we aren’t in the office.
What’s her favorite retailer?
Haleigh: Net-a-Porter
Jacey: Nastygal?
Haleigh: “I’ve literally never shopped at Nasty Gal in my entire life”
What’s something surprising you learned about her?
Haleigh: Jacey literally eats like a 12 year old boy. She loves junk food, spray can cheese, Whataburger, fries, nachos, etc. I truly don’t understand how she stays so skinny.
Jacey: The girl showers at least twice a day, hair washing an all. She’s super OCD.
What does she do that gets on your nerves?
Haleigh: Her ADD. She gets really easily distracted, we will be talking about one thing and then she will jump to something so random mid conversation and I have to be like wait can we go back to that one thing we were talking about a minute ago.
Jacey: “It can wait”
What’s the biggest misconception about working for a blogger & having an assistant?
Haleigh: I guess the biggest misconception about working for Jacey is that she isn’t as much of a girly girl blogger as I originally thought. She cusses {a lot}, drinks and dresses down just like the rest of us.
Jacey: Most people think that bloggers just boss around their assistants to set up rolling racks and take photos. Haleigh is actually a vital asset to helping my entire company run smoothly. She works closely with my agents, my lawyer, accountant and other freelancers to keep things running smoothly.
What’s one piece of clothing you wish she would stop wearing?
Haleigh: Anything with polka-dots
Jacey: Her Balenciaga sneakers because every time I see them I wish I’d gotten a pair for myself 😉
Note to Jacey,
I’ve experienced so many firsts over the past two years while working for you. First time to Europe, first real job that I had out of college, first time flying in a private plane, first time attending Paris Fashion Week, first girls trip to Cabo {which I hope we still do every year}, first promotion, first time buying a car {and getting advice on how to do it from Grant}, first time moving in by myself and the list goes on. Looking back at where I was two years ago before I met you, I can’t believe the progress and growth we both have achieved since – professional and personal. Thank you for being a friend, mentor, bad ass boss and teaching me everything along the way!
XO, Haleigh
