There are many home remedies and superstitions for when you get the hiccups.
Drinking water through a paper towel or holding your breath while swallowing ten times are popular choices. My favorite that my Mom and I used to do was to intently focus on putting two of the tips of your fingers as close as you can possibly get them without touching. This cure for my hiccups has continued with me over a decade and over time I have found that it not only cures the sporadic breathing spasms called hiccups, but it cures life hiccups as well. Creating a fairly meditative state of mind, when I am delivered with a stressful situation I often turn to my favorite home remedy. Somehow, putting my two fingers as close together as I can get them offers me a sense of stillness in our chaotic world. It’s funny how the smallest space between two fingertips can offer big results.
