I’ve always been the type of person to dive head first, face first, into anything and everything that I take on. New hobbies and projects always look something like this: Jacey wants to get her pilots license. Jacey signs up for 30 hours of solo lessons and purchases any and all books, materials and other items to complete the task. Jacey gives up after completing 18 hours.
It’s actually kind of sad when I look back and think about all of the really cool hobbies I have taken on over the years. Flying lessons, kickboxing, painting, tae kwon do, Swahili language lessons, guitar, tennis… to name a few.
As I sat down making my New Year’s Resolution list, I added just below “Hike Mount Kilimanjaro” a very personal resolution that I didn’t even share with you on the blog. I didn’t share it because I wasn’t planning on documenting it and if I actually go through with it, it probably won’t end up in this space because that would defeat the entire purpose.
In my over served wine buzzed mind, I spent nearly an entire evening researching meditation retreats all over the world and found a *silent* 10 Day Retreat in Thailand that, according to my research, is the most intense and authentic meditation retreat in the world. Seeing as how I have never {hilarious I know} practiced meditation, I figured it might be a good idea to dip my toes in it a bit this week.
While a very big part of me believe in just diving in to interests and learning along the way, another part of me is terrified about committing to a 10 Day Retreat. I mean, there is a strong chance that this will never happen so please bear with me as I explore my thoughts on it. However, I have decided to dedicate 10 minutes a day this week toward meditating with a new app. I downloaded on my phone called Headspace. If I can’t do 10 minutes a day for a week, how on Earth can I do 10 days?
We shall see.
