Outfits 10 years ago Down Under
This dress made me think of the ocean.
So, I found it highly appropriate to wear this little number as I strolled around the Sydney Harbor on the first day of my trip. The air was warm and humid as birds chirped above. The people in Sydney were exceptionally friendly! A lot of people told me before I left that Sydney is a lot like Los Angeles. I must say that I agree but there were a few things I found a bit different:
1. The coffee: Wow is the coffee all sorts of incredible in Australia. It wasn’t until I ordered a “Flat White” that I understood what a real coffee should taste like. After I had one of these bad boys, my 8 year old self felt like skipping around the park humming a highly caffeinated version of “Let It Go” from Frozen.
2. The style: Put quite simply, people in Sydney dress impeccably well. When I went to see Madama Butterfly I was quite impressed with how dressed up every person was. In Los Angeles you might see a few people with distressed denim, but in Sydney not one person had on jeans. It was kind of fabulous.
3. The humor: The people in Sydney are practical jokesters which, if you know me from my posts, I absolutely love a good prank! I had dinner with a friend one night and the guys sitting next to us told a very tall tale about the infamous “Drop Bears” that you have to watch out for while in Sydney. These bears will literally jump down from trees on to your head and bite you. Scary. I left the dinner feeling perturbed. It took me 2 days to finally understand that they were pulling my leg. It took me another day to find out that the people of Sydney have a very dry sense of humor. Hilarious.
