I had a mild panic attack last Wednesday just before the Balenciaga show.
These photos were taken just before a hard rain hit which led us frantically searching for a taxi. The show started at 8pm and while we started snapping pictures at 7 o’clock we had no idea that it would be so difficult to grab a ride to the venue which was around 15 minutes away. Fashion shows never start on time. Most begin between 15 – 30 minutes late. But since this was my very first time attending Balenciaga my nerves set in as we ducked into a cab at 8 p.m. on the dot.
Traffic. Bad traffic. We finally hopped back out of the cab on the corner of the venue at 8:30 p.m. I ran. And just as the large crowd of people appeared, all dressed in black I felt slightly better. However, it wasn’t until a tiny man wearing a bright blue french workman’s jacket appeared from a black town car that I knew I wasn’t late.
Bill Cunningham. The show could not possibly start without Bill. So I stopped, grinned and let out a happy sigh of relief.
Needless to say the show was absolutely phenomenal and served as a wonderful introduction to a thrilling Paris Fashion Week.
