Coming out of New York fashion week feels like a whirlwind. Before the trip, I always plan out half my outfits and let the other half pull together as the week goes on. While I was in New York planning new outfits to wear to different shows and events, I picked out these six statement pieces that were an absolute must have for this season’s fashion week.
Which pieces do you like best?
You may have noticed that during fashion week I was adding lace collars and bow ties to my outfits. Lately, I’ve been adding collars to even the simplest outfits. I wear them underneath blouses, dresses and jumpsuits to dress up a look and add a touch of style.
Metallic heels are a new thing for me, I recently bought a pair of soft knot metallic heels from Topshop and posted about them here. With the right outfit and color scheme, a pair of metallic heels will add a playful and fun touch to your outfit. Be careful to wear these shoes with solid colors, steer clear of silver tops or gold pants when deciding what to pair your metallic heels with.
Slip dresses have been all the rage lately. September fashion week in New York can be difficult to pack for, although it is technically “fall,” the city is still humid and hot until the end of the month. In order to stay cool yet look stylish and fashion week chic, I paired a slip dress on top of a cute collared shirt or lacey tee. This look makes the transition from summer to fall effortless.
If you’re looking for the right piece to pair underneath a slip dress, let me introduce you to sheer turtlenecks. I recently ordered two sheer turtlenecks from Trois that I am absolutely obsessed with. I can’t wait to wear them underneath a velvet or silk slip dress. Even if you are going for a night out look, a sheer turtleneck over a jumpsuit or nude bra with high waisted pants could give you just the outfit you are looking for.
For fancier events and shows during fashion week, I chose to wear a matching top and bottom suit. Suit sets are great because you will never feel underdressed wearing one. Although I usually wear solid colors, I love this BCBG striped top and bottom set that I wore to the Ralph Lauren show.
I’ve been a fan of circle handbags for awhile, especially my little Rider Clutch by Rachel Comey. During fashion week, I felt that adding a circle bag to my outfit was a nice substitute from some of my other handbags. Here are a few circle handbags that I really like . .
