I don’t know about you but I’m shocked that we’re already in November. Where has the year flown off to?
With the coming of a new season I always do a big closet clean. I list a bunch of items to my Depop shop {which you can find here}, I sell other pieces to my local Crossroads and donate what is left to the Downtown Women’s Center. When I did a big clean on my closet this month, I noticed a few pieces that I am almost ready to let go of. Every year there are big trends and styles that I latch on to, but I am thinking for 2018 it might be time to retire a few things {as inspired by WhoWhatWear}.
I did a head count {pun intended} and I have 15 straw hats. FIFTEEN! There is positively no reason why I should hold on to 15 straw hats when all you really need are the three you keep on rotation. I even still have this one in the below photo which I wore to the Bahamas 2 years ago! I then packed it in my suitcase for Florence and by the time it got all the way back to Los Angeles it was totally smushed and lost its shape. But it’s still in my closet for some reason. It is time to let go of any excess hats you {myself included} are not going to wear anymore.
Without fail, at least once a year, I will always purchase and wear bell bottom jeans. What can I say? I’m a sucker for 70s style and I really love it when other girls wear this trend. But honestly, it just doesn’t really work for me. I look back at these photos and kind of cringe because bell bottom jeans aren’t my best look. Listen, they might work for you but not for me. Know which denim styles suit your style best and toss the rest!
I somehow manage to have an entire drawer full of swimsuits by the end of the year, yet I still struggle to put together two matching socks. It’s hilarious. I’m not voting for tossing all of your swimwear, but if you haven’t worn it on your past 3 days in the sun, it might be time to let go.
There are random pieces I have held on to over the years for one reason or another that I really need to finally need to let go of. I purchased and wore this Balenciaga bag to my first Balenciaga Paris Fashion Week show and sadly it was the last time I carried it {over 3 years ago!}. The bag is super cute and I feel like I’d wear it more if I went to work in a corporate setting but it doesn’t really suit my lifestyle. I’m selling this bag on Depop!
Sorry. I don’t remember who makes them and I also don’t remember what I was thinking. I mean, okay, it’s a look… but just not for me.
It came, it is sticking around, but I am just about ready to retire my pajama sets for sleep time only. I truly appreciated this trend and rode her ’till she bucked. But come 2018, I’m going to adopt a cleaner style that doesn’t include pajama dressing.
Speaking of unflattering denim. After seeing photos of myself in the high waisted, trendy “Mom Jeans” in this post, I have decided to retire this pair.
I was genuinely obsessed with the net shopping tote trend but over time mine eventually started to sag. While they are super cute, they are not all that practical.
It’s a bootie, it’s an open toe. I was never 100% behind this shoe style because it doesn’t really make sense to me. I’m kicking mine to the curb.
I think it’s safe to say that we can hang up our varsity jackets for a little while. This is a style that comes and goes, but I think it’s time to move into the next new trend for 2018.
Without fail, season after season and year after year you will always find value in a good striped tee.
Shop NowA solid houndstooth blazer will always find a safe place in any closet.
Shop NowI purchased these Nike Cortez sneakers a few months ago and they are my favorites. Definitely planning to carry these puppies into 2018.
Shop NowA little black bootie never hurt nobody. Everyone needs this classic staple in their closet.
Shop NowFor a minute there, I thought that the slip dress trend was going to come and go but I am very happy that it seems to be here to stay.
