Like A Lyon

Pinstripe Jacket with Turtleneck

I start my days with the same routine: Rise at 7:30am and head straight to the studio for coffee & morning news. My usual stops are WWD, CNN, Good Morning America on my television and a quick browse on Pinterest.

I came across a “pin” which lead me to a video of Garance Doré interviewing my favorite, Jenna Lyons. I simply adore Jenna {and Garance}, who inspired todays outfit. A simple, tailored, menswear inspired look that makes me want to live in New York {and I pulled my hair back like Jenna!}. But let’s be honest, we all know I wouldn’t be able to stand the cold {poor NY is getting slammed with snow right now}. So, like my favorite menswear inspired outfit, I will visit my favorite city from time to time in hopes that a piece of it will always stick with me wherever I go.

  1. Jenna Lyons is my idol, and I wear the ankle Minnie pant to work at least 3 days a week…black, navy and hunter green! On a different note, I am going to Paris with my 11 year old daughter next week…any thoughts on what to wear to be warm and stylish? And your favorite neighborhoods to shop? Happy New Year!

  2. As a New Yorker I agree with not being able to handle the cold, especially looking out my window this morning at the piles of snow. I’ve become a regular reader of your blog and find myself drawn more and more to the California coast! So jealous of your living conditions today!!

  3. I didn’t even have to read your inspiration as I immediately knew that you were trying to capture Jenna Lyon’s style! You did it fabulously and oh I love NYC too, but not sure if I could live there during winter!

  4. I LOVEEEE that extra bit of detail in layering a striped tee under a thick turtleneck knit! I’ve been itching to wear a new pair of oxfords, but it doesn’t look like it’s going to happen in these frigid temps in NYC :(

  5. Love this look on you and would wear this in a heartbeat!

Most of my outfits have been menswear inspired since fall with a dress or skirt thrown in to break it up occasionally.

I love loafers sans socks but it’s way too cold to pull this off in chilly Toronto. I’ve been forced to wear boots and my oxfords are looking pretty lonely these days!

    Keep up the great work!

  6. Hi Jacey,

If you don’t mind sharing, what size are you wearing in the Zara coat? I’ve been waiting for this coat to go on sale and noticed they have the sizes available online. I’m usually a size 2 or 4 and I’m trying to decide between a XS or S. I want to make sure it fits well in the shoulder area, but their size chart only includes chest, waist and hips. HELP!

    Thanks! :)

    • Hiya Jen ~

I ordered a Small. I tend to find that Zara coats run slightly small so now it fits perfectly. Hope this helps! X

      • Thanks so much Jacey! I visited a Zara store today and they had both sizes available to try on – small it is! :)

I also saw the tanned Zara coat you wore in a recent post and tried it on in a medium (smallest size they had). I have been looking for a coat that fits like an overcoat and this fit the bill. The colour is also a dream. Now I MUST find that coat in a small! I’ll be visiting a few locations to see if I can hunt it down. It’s so agonizing when you finally find what you were looking for and then the size isn’t available. :)

        Thanks and cheers,
        Jen

  7. Went with just your wedding band too? More menswear, but I don’t think I could go without my engagement ring+wedding band for a normal day outside of the house! Love the whole look on you.
